Combine the cookie or graham cracker crumbs with melted butter.
Press firmly into the bottom of a 9 × 13-inch baking dish.
Refrigerate while preparing the cream cheese layer.
Beat the softened cream cheese until smooth.
Add the powdered sugar and vanilla and beat until creamy.
Fold in part of the whipped topping until light and smooth.
Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the chilled crust.
Wash, dry, hull, and slice the strawberries.
Prepare the strawberry layer according to the mixture being used and allow it to cool sufficiently.
Fold the sliced strawberries into the strawberry mixture.
Carefully spread the strawberry layer over the cream cheese layer.
Refrigerate for 30–45 minutes until partially set.
Spread the remaining whipped topping over the strawberry layer.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
Garnish with fresh strawberries and optional cookie crumbs before serving.
Slice and serve chilled.
